Colour:  Volcanic glass. Black, brown, green, red/black, brown/black, black with rainbow pattern, black/snowflake, blue. The colour of obsidian is determined by the inclusions and impurities that are present.

Uses: Crystals are a gift of nature that have been cherished and appreciated by humankind for for millennia. There are countless ways we can incorporate crystals into our daily lives. Placed around the home, worn as jewellery or simply held in the hand they remind us of our relationship with nature and Mother Earth.

It is known that crystals, due to their atomic makeup, hold heat and focus light energy, the often used example is quartz crystals being used in watches to generate an electric charge. Beyond this, it is said that crystals and gemstones have different energies that can be used to enhance your own energetic vibrations. Each gemstone is known for its unique 'energetic' properties.

Properties:  Grounding – Protecting – Earth Connecting

A crystal with no boundaries or limitations and strongly protective. Obsidian forms a shield against negativity and brings the user strength, wisdom and positivity. It encourages us to take a look at ourselves, into the parts that we tend to hide away from and thus exposing our weaknesses. It is grounding, with a strong connection to the earth. It brings clarity of mind and encourages creativity and intuition.

Tip:  Obsidian is strongly protective and useful in situations where people are draining your energy or pushing negative energy your way.

Historical Uses/Folklore: black obsidian is known as the ‘Wizard stone’. It holds back negativity and will only work with positive intention. The Aztecs polished pieces into scrying mirrors. In the Middles Ages, people shaped obsidian into axes and arrowheads and believed them to be magical and protective, warding off evil spirits and demons.
