Origin:  Shun'ga village, Lake Onega, Karelia Republic, Russia.

Crystal Details: A rare carbon mineral, Shungite has been around for an estimated 2 billion years.  In  1996 Nobel Prize-winning research discovered antioxidant fullerenes within the crystal. The healing potential  of shungite was then realised and it is now the primary crystal for electromagnetic protection, purification and detoxification of the body.

Chemical Composition: C (pure carbon)

Hardness:  On Mohs scale of mineral hardness - grade 3-4 (1 being softest, 10 being hardest)

Colour:  Black and light in weight.

Uses: Crystals are a gift of nature that have been cherished and appreciated by humankind for for millennia. There are countless ways we can incorporate crystals into our daily lives. Shungite is a powerful purification and protection crystal. It improves mental clarity and clears the body of stored emotion and impurities. It has a strong earth connection and is a powerful grounding stone. In chakra work, it can clear and re-energise each of the chakras, one-by-one by working from the base up to the crown. Shungite has electricity conducting properties and these properties are known to help in the inhibiting of electromagnetic radiation, created by electronic devices such as laptops, microwaves, mobile phones, computers and wi-fi routers etc.  Aids meditation, by helping to keep the mind clear.

Tip:  One of the strongest electromagnetic protecting crystals and is often shaped into a pyramid in order to keep room energy clear. Very useful to have a piece in the home and workplace. Historical Uses/Folklore: First discovered in the village of Shunga, Karelia, Russia. Shungite has long been used as a water purifier and is still used as such in Russia today. Peter the Great established the first Russian spa in Karelia where people could bathe in spring water purified by the shungite that it flowed through.
