Origin: US (Magnesite) / Canada (Howlite)

Crystal Details: Most Turqurenite is dyed Magnesite or Howlite. Both are soft, naturally white to brown in colour and have a rounded, bumpy surface.  These soft stones absorb dye easily and the green/blue dyes can make them look like turquoise.

Chemical Composition: MgCO₃ (Mangasite) or Ca₂B₅SiO₉(OH)₅ (Howlite)

Hardness:  On Mohs scale of mineral hardness - grade 3.5-4.5 (1 being softest, 10 being hardest)

Colour:  Turquoise

Historical Uses/Folklore: Shamans used Magnesite and turquoise for the regeneration of cells. A piece of Turqurenite, placed by the bed, is said to help with remembering and understanding dreams. Howlite is named for its discoverer, Henry How, a Canadian geologist from Nova Scotia.
