It is also found in rocks that have been altered by contact metamorphism, hydrothermal and metasomatic processes. The Rhodonite crystal meaning comes from the word rhodon, which means ‘rose’ in Greek.

Chemical Composition: Manganese Inosilicate - (Mn, Fe, Mg, Ca) SiO₃

Hardness:  On Mohs scale of mineral hardness - grade 5.5-6.5 (1 being softest, 10 being hardest)

Colour:  Rhodonite is a rose pink to dark red gemstone with black dendritic inclusions.

Uses: Crystals are a gift of nature that have been cherished and appreciated by humankind for for millennia. There are countless ways we can incorporate crystals into our daily lives. Placed around the home, worn as jewellery or simply held in the hand they remind us of our relationship with nature and Mother Earth.

It is known that crystals, due to their atomic makeup, hold heat and focus light energy, the often used example is quartz crystals being used in watches to generate an electric charge. Beyond this, it is said that crystals and gemstones have different energies that can be used to enhance your own energetic vibrations. Each gemstone is known for its unique 'energetic' properties.

Properties:  Compassion – Grounding - Balancing - Calming

A stone of compassion, an emotional balancer that clears away emotional wounds and scars from the past, and that nurtures love. It stimulates, clears and activates the heart. Rhodonite grounds energy, balances yin-yang, and aids in achieving one's highest potential. It heals emotional shock and panic.

Historical Uses/Folklore: Russian Czars supposedly crafted platters out of rhodonite to give as wedding gifts. In fact, this stone served as an important part of Russia’s historical culture, as its people once placed it in cribs to watch over infants. Rhodonite inlay was used to decorate the Moscow Metro, and Mayakovskaya Station, built between 1935 and 1938, has over 80 square metres of columns with rhodonite inlay. In 1979, rhodonite was designated as the official state gemstone for Massachusetts, since it is considered to be the most beautiful material found there.
