Historical Uses/Folklore: An Aboriginal Mother Earth stone. Mookaite is also known as Australian Jasper and there are many spelling variations: Mookite, Mookalite, Mookerite, and Mook Jasper are just a few.

Origin:  Australia

Crystal Details: Mookaite is an Australian Jasper of red and yellow and is found in one place in Western Australia, Mooka Creek. The Aboriginal word ‘Mooka’ translates as ‘running waters’ and refers to the rivers that run into this area. Mookaite Jasper is described as chert, opalite or chalcedony, or a combination of the three, varying only with the degree of silica, and occurs as nodules in the softer clay beneath the creek bed or as multicoloured sheets of chalcedony. Mookaite was formed as the skeletal remains of radiolaria, microscopic protozoa with a hard silica shell, were deposited over millennia as sediment in shallow areas of sea-beds. As waters receded, the remains were solidified by additional silica carried in groundwater, along with minerals that produced its beautiful combinations of red, burgundy, mustard-yellow, cream, white and brown

Chemical Composition: SiO2 (Silicon Dioxide)

Hardness:  On Mohs scale of mineral hardness - grade 7 (1 being softest, 10 being hardest)

Colour:  A vibrant fiery red, burgundy, mustard-yellow, cream, white and brown.

Chakra:  Base (Muladhara)
