Crystal Details: Labradorite is a feldspar mineral and it exhibits iridescence. This is caused by the reflection and scattering of light from microscopic parallel intergrowths of Albite and Orthoclase bouncing light back and forth through the layers, giving it a shining, glowing appearance like gazing at a night sky.

Chemical Composition: (Ca,Na)(Si,Al)4O8

Hardness:  On Mohs scale of mineral hardness - grade 5-6 (1 being softest, 10 being hardest)

Colour:  The surface can initially appear dark and uninteresting but as soon as the light catches its surface, blues, greys, green and yellow can be seen.

Uses:
Crystals are a gift of nature that have been cherished and appreciated by humankind for for millennia. There are countless ways we can incorporate crystals into our daily lives. Placed around the home, worn as jewellery or simply held in the hand they remind us of our relationship with nature and Mother Earth.

It is known that crystals, due to their atomic makeup, hold heat and focus light energy, the often used example is quartz crystals being used in watches to generate an electric charge. Beyond this, it is said that crystals and gemstones have different energies that can be used to enhance your own energetic vibrations. Each gemstone is known for its unique 'energetic' properties

Properties:  Allows magic to happen – inspiration – intuition – transformation

Labradorite is a crystal of magical appearance and when the light catches the surface, you can see a myriad of colours.  It helps to banish fears and insecurities and helps us through change. It brings out creativity and originality and sharpens the mind. Helps in times of worry and stress.  A crystal of transformation and protection.

Historical Uses/Folklore: The name labradorite comes from the Labrador region of Canada where the stone was discovered around 1770. It has since been found in a number of other locations around the world.

Chakra:  Brow (Ajna)

How to Take Care of Your Labradorite Pendant

Labradorite gemstones should be stored inside a fabric-lined box or wrapped in a soft cloth. It is rated about 6 – 6.5 on the Mohs hardness scale, so they should be kept away from other gemstones and jewellery to ensure they do not get scratched by any harder gemstones or damage any that may be softer.

To clean, just wash in warm soapy water using a soft brush, rinse thoroughly and dry with a soft cloth, we do not recommend ultrasonic cleaners or steamers. It is a good idea to remove any jewellery before doing any physical activity such as sports, housework or gardening.
