In Greek legend, Cupid and Eros brought rose quartz to humankind in hope that it would would inspire love and desire in mortals. In an Egyptian legend, Isis used rose quartz to maintain her divine youth and beauty.  It has been reported that facial masks made of rose quartz have been found in the tombs of ancient Egypt, and it is believed that the ancients felt rose quartz would keep their complexions clear and prevent wrinkles.  Rose quartz was also revered by ancient Tibetan and Chinese cultures, and some believe that this stone has been used as a token of love as early as 600 BC.

Origin:  Madagascar

Crystal Details: Rose Quartz is one of the most common varieties of the Quartz family. It is found in abundance around the world and occurs in massive form. It is hazy to translucent and its name is derived from its soft rose colour. Rose Quartz is very stable and will not fade with heat or direct sunlight.

Chemical Composition: SiO₂ (silicon dioxide with impurities)

Hardness:  On Mohs scale of mineral hardness - grade 7 (1 being softest, 10 being hardest)

Colour:  Ranges from very pale pink to deep reddish-pink.  It also contains microscopic fibre inclusions of rutile which can cause a shimmer effect. It is hazy to translucent and its name is derived from its soft rose colour.
