Origin:  Uruguay

Crystal Details: Rhodochrosite is a manganese carbonate mineral. The formation of rhodochrosite usually occurs in fractures and cavities of metamorphic and sedimentary rocks. It is often associated with silver deposits, and a few silver mines produce rhodochrosite as a byproduct.

Chemical Composition: Mangonese Carbonate - MnCO₃

Hardness:  On Mohs scale of mineral hardness - grade 3.5-4 (1 being softest, 10 being hardest)

Colour:  Ranges from light pink to bright red with white bands. It can include, yellowish-grey, brown  and grey

Historical Uses/Folklore: It was found in 1813 in Romania and was named after the Greek word meaning “rose colour”, the symbol of love. It is also known as "Inca Rose" and Rhodochrosite mines were found by the Inca people around the 12th-13th century. They believed that the stones were the blood of their former kings and queens,  the blood hardening into a stone to show strength, power, and stamina.
